Your bedroom – your calm oasis
The way you start your day usually sets the tone for the rest of the day. Therefore it’s important that you start your day on the right note. The way your room looks can have a direct effect on your mood. This is probably the reason why everyone feels better in a clean, well designed, comfortable hotel room. There is no rule that says you can’t indulge in a bit of luxury at your own home. A bedroom is your oasis of calm and starting off the day in a relaxed mood begins here.
There’s no better feeling than lying in bed under a warm cosy quilt. Wake up early in the morning before the world is overtaken with chores, responsibilities and noise and just relish this peaceful feeling. Rather than jumping out of bed at the last minute, get up earlier and stay in bed for a while. Sit up with a pillow or two behind you. Listen to soothing music or journal in your bed.
If you prefer to get out of bed as soon as you get up, have a cosy armchair on the corner over an area rug where you can enjoy a cup of tea in the privacy of your home.
Decorate the room in pleasant neutral shades such as ivory, off white, beige, light browns and blues to create a Zen like feeling. These colours tend to go well with each other and create a feeling of calm by not competing for your attention. A few potted plants will add to this feel. Buy curtains in complimentary shades. If you don’t want the room to be flooded with light, go for thicker curtains in cotton or cotton velvet.
Clutter can really get on your nerves. Therefore make room for adequate storage bins or wardrobes where you can store away all your clothes, shoes and knickknacks. This way piles of clothing and shoes taken off in a hurry are not the first things you see as soon as you wake up. Reduce the clutter or eliminate it completely with smart storage and you’ll feel instantly relaxed in the morning.
