5 Habits To Work Effectively From Home
With WFH or ‘working from home’ becoming more and more common, a lot of people are finding it difficult to manage their workday efficiently. However, this trend isn’t going to go away anytime soon, so here are some simple ideas on how you can make the best of your workday from home.
1. Set Regular Hours
Just like you would at the office, keep regular hours at home too. Log in to work at your desk and log out at the same time every day. You can even schedule your coffee/tea and lunch breaks like the office.
This will help you maintain a proper schedule and put you in a ‘work mood’. It may also be a good idea to inform everyone at home that you’re not to be disturbed during work hours – unless there’s an emergency, of course.
2. Wear Formal Clothes
A lot of people report that they feel more comfortable working when dressed in ‘office wear’. So, even if there’s no one to see you, try to wear something other than your PJs. One, it makes you feel more alert, and two, if you suddenly get a video call, you’re dressed for it.
3. Plan Your Tasks
Working from home can be very distracting if you get caught up in household chores, browsing social media or even unnecessary calls.
At the end of each day, list out the tasks that you need to complete the next day and stick to it. If you need a visual reminder, invest in a good memo board or pin board.
4. A Home Office
If possible, demarcate a separate room or area as your home office space. Invest in a work desk and a comfortable chair, so you’re not working from the sofa. You can also inform your family members that they must not intrude into this space. This means that you can take uninterrupted calls, brainstorm or work more effectively.
5. Work-Life Balance
Last but not least, remember that a good work-life balance is still essential. Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take time out for yourself.
If you need to balance parenting duties with work, you can always create a schedule that gives you adequate time to do both – just remember not to overstress yourself.
With these tips, you’ll quickly be able to manage working from home as effectively as if you were in your office!
